About Me
Hello! My name is Annie Edwards. I have been a teacher, administrator, and mentor in an independent school setting for nearly four decades. I have a BA from St. Lawrence University, a MA from Middlebury College, and a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA.
Most recently, I served as the Director of University Guidance at Beijing City International School in Beijing, China. I spent this past spring semester in the US counseling my students online in multiple timezones. I have now made the transition back to living full time in the US. Prior to that post, I resided in Lake Placid, New York where I served a variety of roles over the years, including Associate Director of College Guidance, Academic Director, and Advisor to the Community Service program. I also taught French, English and psychology as year long courses at Northwood School in a college preparatory school setting.
I am passionate about teaching and providing educational consulting and college readiness assessments to rising 9th through 12th grade students. I provide up-to-date college counseling services and personal one-on-one attention to college-bound students for each admission cycle.
I have a friendly, direct, no-nonsense approach. I work in small groups or with individuals and provide structure and guidance so that each designated task in the college application process is reached before tackling the next one. I serve as the advisor while the work is completed by the student. This includes researching colleges and creating the college list. Next, students prepare and submit college applications, draft college essays, submit documents on time, ask for teacher and counselor recommendations, fill out financial aid forms and notify me, their high school guidance counselor, and their parents about college and university decisions.
I love to be in the outdoors. I spend all of my free time exploring the surrounding wilderness. I run, hike, mountain bike, kayak, canoe, paddle board, swim, Alpine ski, Nordic ski, and practice yoga. I am an Adirondack 46er in the High Peaks region in New York State and have spent countless hours sharing the beautiful mountains with local school children. I love to cook and bake simple, delicious meals using locally grown produce. I can be found knitting constantly and I am willing to try just about any craft or project.
I look forward to continuing to share my knowledge with others as I continue to grow and learn from my students. I can work with anyone confident enough to be open to take a risk to try something new. That is all that I can ask of my students. From there, my passion for learning shines through. My mantra remains the same: I am genuine and I expect my students to be genuine as well.
I hope to meet you soon. Have a wonderful day!
